About the Training

This two-day course, taught by expert and engaging faculty, features a thorough, evidence-based curriculum designed for psychiatrists, nurses, physicians, social workers, mental health providers, childbirth professionals, social support providers, and anyone interested in building skills in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders.

What You’ll Learn

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify challenges in recognizing and treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs)
  • Describe symptoms and differentiate between depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and psychosis
  • Discuss psychopharmacology during pregnancy, postpartum, and lactation
  • Assess prenatal and postpartum risk factors and screen for PMADs
  • Identify evidence-based treatment options
  • Develop psychosocial, self-help, and psychotherapy-based treatment plans
  • Understand the impact of untreated PMADs on individuals and families
  • Discuss breastfeeding considerations in the context of PMADs
  • Identify social supports, legislative updates, and community resources
  • Incorporate culturally responsive care and spirituality into treatment approaches
